We spend New year 2012-2013 in Vienna.
We started
our journey by Viking Line ferry over night from Turku to Stockholm. We drove
all day through Sweden and Denmark and was spending first night at Fehmarn
Wisser’s Hotel in Germany. Which was very nice little hotel. The second day we
drove through Germany and spent the next night in Czech Republic.
And the
following day we drove to Vienna. We were at Vienna 4 days.
Operahouse Vienna
Uuden vuoden vaihde 2012-2013 Wienissä.
Matkustimme Viking linella yön yli Tukholmaan, josta ajoimme
Ruotsin ja Tanskan läpi Saksaan. Siellä vietimme seuraavan yö ja sitten
jatkoimme matkaa Saksan läpi kohti Tsekkiä. Saksan läpiajo on nopeaa – jos niin
haluaa – moottoritiet halkovat maata joka suuntaan. Tsekissä vietimme yhden yön
ja niin olimme Wienissä, Itävallassa.
Siellä vierailimme mm. Wienin kansallisoopperassa Taikahuilua
katsomassa. Wienin vanhan kaupungin yleisilmeen näkee parhaiten Ring Tram
linjalla eli raitiovaunulla, joka kiertää ympyrän koko kaupungin läpi.
Ja tietysti söimme wieninleikettä lisukkeineen vanhassa kaupungissa.

Uuden vuoden päivän vietimme Schönbrunnin palatsissa
ihaillen sen nähtävyykisä ja tutkien uuden vuoden markkinoiden antia. Illalla
tulimme uudelleen palatsiin kuuntelemaan Straussin konserttia. Metro on kätevin
väline vierailulle Schönbrunniin. Toimi hyvin myös uuden vuoden iltana.
Konsertin jälkeen menimme hotellille vaihtamaan lämpimämpiä vaatteita päälle ja
suuntasimme vanhan kaupungin uuden vuoden vilskeeseen. Konsertteja ja muita
esityksiä oli kaupunki täynnä. Popista ja rockmusiikista aina kirkkomusiikkiin.
Ja tietysti siellä täällä oli Gluehwein kärryjä ja kuohuviini pisteitä.
Schönbrunn Palace
We visited The
Vienna State Opera and saw The Magic Flute. The Vienna State Opera is prized
for its exceptional acoustics. And it’s very good. Our places were quite high
up, but you could see and hear very well. The Vienna Ring Tram is the worth visiting –
you can see hole Old City at one ride. It departs every 30 minutes from
Schwedenplatz. It has audio-visual information. You can get to know Vienna’s
wonderful boulevard, the Ringstrasse around the Old City, in comfort from the
Vienna Ring Tram. Duration: 25 minutes. Tickets
can be purchased on board the tram. Otherwise we used metro to our journeys and
the old city is best by walking around.
At the New
Years Eve we went to Schönbrunn Palace, the former summer residence of the
imperial family. Emperor Franz Joseph,
who later married the enchanting Sissi and reigned from 1848 to 1916, was born
there in 1830. Today, the palace is part of UNESCO’s cultural heritage due to
its historic importance, its unique grounds and its splendid furnishings.
We visited
it daytime to explore the Palace and in the evening we went there to enjoy
Strauss concert. At the day time there is very nice New Years market at the
Schönbrunn Palace area. In the evening we had dinner first at one of restaurants
there. And then we enjoyed the wonderful Strauss concert.
After the
concert we went to hotel to change our clothes and then we went to old city
center to see people and feel the New Years evening atmosphere. On December 31, Vienna's old city center transforms into a giant party
zone. From 2 p.m. in the afternoon to 2 a.m. the following morning, top
entertainment is guaranteed. Concerts,
other entertainment are in all the places. And of course lot of Gluehwein and champagne.
Dubrovnik in January
After
Vienna we drove to south all the way to Croatia through Slovenia. First night we
were at Zadar and then one night at Dubrovnik. After that to Montenegro where we was at Bar and then we continued our trip to Belgrade, Serbien and from there to Budapest, Hungary.
In Budapest we spent two days – at fantastic hotel and had fantastic dinner.
Our hotel was opposite to Hungarian Parliament Building – other side of the
river. Boutique Hotel Victoria Budapest is
our kind of hotel. We prefer boutique hotels and smaller hotels. We had a very nice dinner at restaurant Carne Di Hall Budapest. Nice place and very good local food.
Wienistä suuntasimme kohti Kroatiaa Slovenian läpi ajaen. Kroatiassa
vietimme ensimmäisen yön Zadarissa ja toisen Dubrovnikissa. Kroatiasta kerron lisää
jossakin seuraavista blogeista. Sieltä suuntasimme Montenegron upean kauheiden
vuoristoteiden kautta kohti Belgradia ja sieltä Unkariin, Budapestiin.
Budapest
oli mielenkiintoinen – meillä oli upea hotelli joen varrella vastapäätä
Parlamentti taloa. Kävellen pääsi helposti keskustaan.
Sieltä Slovakian luonnonpuistoalueiden läpi kohti Puolaa,
jossa ensimmäinen pysähdys oli Oswiecimin kaupungissa. Sieltä vierailimme Auschwitz-Birkenaun keskitysleirillä.
Ajatella
yli 1.1 miljoonaa naista, lasta ja miestä menetti siellä henkensä. Emme varmaan
koskaan tule unohtamaan vierailuamme siellä. Eikä pitäisikään - varsinkin nyt, kun
puheet ja teot erilaisia ihmisiä vastaan ovat kasvussa. Meidän ei koskaan
pitäisi unohtaa niitä kauheuksia joihin vain ihminen pystyy. Sieltä ajoimme
sitten Gdanskiin, josta lautalla Ruotsiin ja sieltä sitten lautalla Suomeen,
Turkuun. Kotiin.
Auschwitz-Birkenau
After Budapest we drove through Slovakia to Poland. First night we spend at Oswiecimin. From there we visited Auschwitz.
All
over the world, Auschwitz has become a symbol of terror, genocide, and the
Holocaust. It Was established by Germans in 1940, in the suburbs of Oswiecim, a Polish city that was annexed to the Third
Reich by the Nazis. Its name was changed to Auschwitz, which also became the
name of Konzentrationslager Auschwitz. Over 1.1 million men, women and children
lost their lives there. It was and it is heartbreaking. I will not forget that place ever.
From there we drove to Gdansk and
there by ferry to Sweden. And then we went from Sweden by ferry to Finland. And
so we were at home again.
